CONSTELLATION SCHOOL ON X-RAYS FROM STAR FORMING REGIONS Palermo, 18-22 May 2009

The school intends to offer an introduction to the theme of X-ray emission from
star forming regions and will include lectures on high energy emission from low mass and high mass stars. The influence
of X-ray emission on circumstellar environment will also be presented. The morning sessions will be devoted to
introductory lectures, while the afternoon sessions will include instrumental lectures, a visit to the XACT (the
INAF OAPa X-ray laboratory for astrophysics) and practical exercises on real data.
Confirmed speakers include: M. Barbera, A. Collura, C. Cecchi Pestellini, F. Damiani, F. Favata, E. Feigelson, M. Jardine, A. Maggio, T.
Montmerle, G. Peres, S. Sciortino.
For logistic reasons the number of attendants will be limited to 35 PhD /post-doc students. Positions will be filled
on the basis of "first arrived first served" approach.
Practical Session including some results
Abstracts Preliminary Programme The school will take place at the Palermo Research Center of CNR, in via U. La Malfa 153, 90146
Palermo. We have booked a block of 40 single and double rooms at Hotel Mediterraneo (Via R. Pilo n. 44, 90139 Palermo), at the
special cost of € 105,00 for the double room, € 85,00 for the double room in single occupancy, € 72,00 for the
single room. The hotel is in the city centre. We will provide a bus transfer service from the hotel to the school
venue and viceversa. The rooms are reserved till 15th March. Afterwards, we cannot guarantee the availability
of the rooms, but we will suggest you a list of hotels in the city centre at reasonable prices.

The hotel is very close to the stop of the bus shuttle (Politeama stop) from the Airport
(see below)

The Palermo Airport, called "Falcone e Borsellino", is located
in the "Punta Raisi" area, ~30 km West from Downtown.
Taxi: The taxi fare from the Airport
to Palermo Downtown (or viceversa) is ~ 45 Euro during the day; the fare is higher in the night.
Bus Shuttle: The bus shuttle ("Prestia
e Comande'" Company) will bring you from the Palermo Airport to Downtown (or viceversa). The journey is nominally
40 minutes, but it can depend on traffic. The ticket cost is € 5.60 and you can buy the ticket directly from the
driver. At the Airport, the bus shuttle terminal is located just outside the "Arrival" zone. There are
more than 20 daily trips, at a frequency of 30 minutes, from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. approximately. To reach Palermo
Downtown, please, ask the driver for the stop at the "Politeama Theatre"; hotel Mediterraneo is very
near.
Train: the Trinacria Express connects Palermo
directly with the terminal. Tickets cost € 5.00. For the timetable, please consult the tables below:
